Looking to buy a gift for the photographer in your life? I’ll provide a short list of useful products for photographers that are also universal. These are not dependent on the type of camera someone uses.
1. Flexible Tripod
These are great. They can hold a mirrorless or DSLR camera as well as a cell phone with the provided mount, You can even use these for holding lights. The flexible arms help mount things in odd locations. This Goocong model is currently under $10 and is excellent quality for the price.
2. SD Cards
It’s always nice to have some extra SD cards laying around. You can pick up a variety of 128 GB cards for under $15. I’ve become a fan of Samsung. They hit the sweet spot of performance and price making them an excellent value.
3. Wrist Strap
If you’ve seen some of my videos, you probably know I love these things. They are inexpensive and comfortable. I usually carry my camera and use the wrist strap in case it falls out of my hand. This is a single point of failure, so I don’t recommend walking around with your camera dangling. There are simple ways to add a safety leash with the tripod mount as the second point.
3. Custom Neck Strap
Not every photographer prefers a wrist strap. I like to use a neck strap when walking around a lot or in cold weather to avoid frozen hands. A custom neck strap was the first thing I did to add some personality to my camera. I got a nice brown “leather” option. It looks great and is probably more professional than keeping the branded one that comes with the camera.
3. Tripod Mount for Neck Strap
This is something that might get overlooked. I prefer not to use a neck strap most of the time. This little piece of hardware allows the neck strap to be added or removed quickly. If you use a wrist strap, you can also clip the wrist strap to the neck strap which adds a second point of failure to either.
4. Reflector/Diffuser
These are really useful when photographing in the middle of the day or in the woods where the light is uneven. I tend to use the diffuser most. It is translucent and basically softens the light. The downside of these is they will require an assistant to hold it for you.
5. Small light
What is photography without light? Ulanzi makes a small rechargeable light that often comes through in a big way. These little things are great when you just need a little extra pop of light.
Bonus: Camera Lens Coffee Cup
What photographer doesn’t love coffee? I’m sure they exist, but this covered cup works with water, tea, or whatever the preferred beverage is. The classic styling is sure to bring great conversation.
I hope you’ve found these helpful. If you decide to order one of the items, please use the links in this description. It helps the channel out and allows for additional product reviews to take place. These are not just random products. I actually use them myself and find them to be a great value.
