Let’s Talk About Wirestock

I joined Wirestock on June 30, 2020. In the past few years, I’ve seen a lot of changes. It makes sense as the company has grown and evolved.

It didn’t bother me when they introduced tier limits based on approval ratings. That seemed like a subtle message saying they didn’t want every picture you take and to screen your content before submitting.

About six months ago Wirestock introduced a paid tier. This is when I started to become concerned. Not only were they limiting the amount photographers and videographers could submit, but they were also looking for new ways to monetize the company. Around this time, I noticed approval times were approaching a week. When I joined, they were only a few days.

This was when I created profiles with sites such as Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, iStock/Getty, Pond5, Dreamtime, and Deposit Photos. I started using Xpiks for my keywording and FileZilla for FTP uploads. It’s quite the process to keyword and upload stock photos and videos, but these tools help dramatically.

Since uploading directly, I haven’t uploaded much to Wirestock. Recently, I uploaded some pictures I did not feel like keywording myself. They have been sitting under the Submitted section of Wirestock for over a month now.

My gut tells me the paid plan could be a last-ditch effort for Wirestock to survive. I feel their service in the early days was great, but perhaps they bit off more than they could chew. I wish them well and hope they can get things back on track.

An interesting fact about this video is I share some of my Wirestock stock photography earnings from the past 30 days. This was record-breaking for my highest and lowest-selling photos. The top was over $53 and the low was a measly 3 cents.

This was my first video using my new Hollyland Lark M1 lav mic. The sound quality is pretty nice and the recording capabilities will be far greater than the condenser mic I have been using. The mic comes in a charging case similar to the DJI Lav mics, but it is even smaller and less than half the price. Currently on sale at Amazon.

Thank you so much for watching. If you enjoyed this video, please like and subscribe.
