This was an interesting experiment. I’d say it does a decent job of comparing Micro Four Thirds to Full Frame in a controlled environment. There was a little trial and error and I basically scrapped my initial test. A few examples were included along with what went wrong.
Moving forward, things went a little smoother. My backdrop was a $5 fleece blanket with an Ulanzi VL120 RGB light to add a little flair. An Ulanzi VL120 was used for a key light as well.
The primary light was a Canon 430EX Speedlight. It was set to manual at 1/32 for the main shots. This was used on the camera with a plastic diffuser attached.
The Full Frame camera used for this test was the Canon EOS RP with the Canon EF 85mm F1.8 lens.
The Micro Four Thirds camera used for this test was the Olympus E-M1 Mark II with an Olympus 45mm F1.8 lens.
I also used a Viltrox EF to MFT speed booster. This was to use the Canon 85mm on my Olympus camera. The speed booster resulted in about a 120mm Full Frame equivalent lens. I needed to stop down more than I did in the example photos. I was at about F2.0 and needed to be closer to F4.0 to avoid blurred ears. That said, I think this combo actually has the most potential for headshots out of everything tested.
There was a decent amount of trial and error for this video and I learned a lot. Please let me know if you have any additional tips.
Which combo did you think looks the best?
